Accountability Check No. 1
Bill C-5: A Soft-on-Crime Disaster
Bill C-5, supported by the Liberal-NDP coalition, has made significant changes to Canada's criminal justice system, particularly concerning serious crimes. This bill eliminates mandatory minimum sentences for many serious offenses, including:
- Firearm offenses
- Drug trafficking
- Aggravated assault
- Sexual assault
- Human trafficking
Additionally, Bill C-5 expands the use of house arrest for dangerous offenders, allowing criminals convicted of serious crimes to serve their sentences at home rather than in prison.

Alistair MacGregor and the NDP voted in favor of this bill, which makes it easier for violent criminals to avoid serving time in prison.
- Conservatives strongly opposed this bill, warning that it would lead to an increase in gang violence and drug-related crimes.
The Consequences:

Rising crime: Repeat offenders are being released and committing more crimes in our communities, such as Duncan, where crime has escalated.
- Fentanyl crisis worsens: Drug dealers now face weaker penalties, allowing them to continue profiting from illegal activities without facing significant consequences.
